One seed can grow a forest: writer Pemba Umoja launches Earth 2027, free earth cards for schools and communities in thirteen languages
pembaumoja.com/earth-2027 — Free to print, no sign-up
The writer Pemba Umoja today launched Earth 2027, a free set of ten printable cards and a poster about trees, rivers, seeds, silence and the one world we share. The set is available in thirteen languages and runs through December 2027. It is made for Earth Day (22 April) and World Environment Day (5 June), and for every school day in between.
Each card carries a short saying by Pemba Umoja. Among them:
“When you touch a tree, you touch the roots of the universe.”
“Put out the jars to catch the rain.”
“Never rush by a lotus.”
The poster reads: “One seed can grow a forest.”
A ten-day challenge, in class or outdoors. Teachers are invited to use one card a day for ten school days. Students read it together, outside if they can. They talk about it for two minutes, then try to live it for the rest of the day: notice a tree, save a cup of water, listen to the quiet.
A guide for teachers. A short printable guide in each language offers discussion questions for every card and ideas for gardens and assemblies. It also includes gentle advice for when a child is frightened about the future of the planet. Teachers may set aside any card that does not fit their community or landscape.
Free, and easy to share. Every set is a print-ready PDF that works on any black-and-white printer: one poster page and four cut-sheets. There is nothing to buy and no account to create. Schools and groups may print, copy, display and share the cards with attribution, and add their own designs around the words. The sayings stay exactly as written, and the cards may not be sold.
Not only for schools. Earth 2027 is also free for universities, libraries, workplaces, assisted-living homes and community groups. The cards are for readers of all ages. The page offers a ready-to-copy description for newsletters and websites; organisations are asked to link to the page rather than re-post the files.
A companion to Kindness 2027. Earth 2027 joins Kindness 2027, Pemba Umoja’s free kindness cards for the UNESCO International Day against Violence and Bullying at School (5 November). One set is about how we treat each other; the other, how we treat the world we share. Many schools will use the kindness cards in autumn and the earth cards in spring.
“We surely must have one of the most beautiful homes in the universe, our precious planet. Its fate and ours depend on our individual and collective actions.”
Languages: Arabic, Bengali, Chinese (Simplified), English, French, German, Hindi, Indonesian, Japanese, Kiswahili, Portuguese, Russian and Spanish.
