Earth 2027 · For Classrooms

One seed can grow a forest.

Running through December 2027 — for Earth Day (April 22), World Environment Day (June 5), and every day in between.

A free gift from the writer Pemba Umoja: ten printable earth cards and a classroom poster — in thirteen languages. Print them, post them, take them outside.

Also free for universities, libraries, workplaces, assisted-living homes and community groups. The cards are for readers of all ages.

We surely must have one of the most beautiful homes in the universe, our precious planet. Its fate and ours depend on our individual and collective actions. I’ve created these cards and an accompanying guide to encourage dialogue about the Earth and our place within it.

Everything here is free to print, use, and share. If the cards reach your classroom, I'd love to hear how your students received them. Write to press@pembaumoja.com.

Thank you for all you do. I truly believe teaching is the world's most important profession.

Each set is a print-ready PDF: one poster page plus four cut-sheet pages — ten cards, free to share with attribution.

Step one — Print: The poster for your classroom wall, the cards on any printer — black-and-white friendly. Recycled paper if you have it.

Step two — Cut & post: Cut along the dashed lines. Hang the poster where students will see it every day — or in the school garden.

Step three — Take one, leave one: Students take a card for themselves — and leave one behind for a stranger.

The 10-Day Earth Challenge

Start in April — or any time through 2027 — and try one card a day for ten school days. Read it together, outside if you can, talk about it for two minutes, then live it for the rest of the day: notice a tree, save a cup of water, listen to the quiet. Ten cards, ten days, one class that looks at the world a little differently.

  1. One seed can grow a forest.
  2. When you touch a tree, you touch the roots of the universe.
  3. All flowers first grew wild.
  4. A river always knows which way to flow.
  5. Put out the jars to catch the rain.
  6. Never rush by a lotus.
  7. Learn to hear the silence.
  8. Imagine a world with mountains, but no valleys, deserts, but no oceans.
  9. When you cut down trees, you cut off the limbs of future generations.
  10. The tree of humanity has one trunk, diverse branches, and billions of leaves.

Start any day — the earth is the curriculum all year.
