The Story That Disappeared

“What are you doing?” she said, tapping Willie on the shoulder as he wrote a story with his pen.

Willie loved to write.

He was writing a story about orange penguins.

Yes, orange penguins.

“What are you doing?” she persisted, tapping Willie on the shoulder some more.

Willie was trying to stay focused on his orange penguins, but he lost sight of them.

“I’m writing. Please don’t disturb me.”

Willie tried to find his orange penguins again, but they were gone.

Blue elephants, Willie thought. I’ll add some blue elephants.

The blue elephants tried to find the orange penguins.

They searched and searched and searched, but the orange penguins could not be found.

They were gone.

So the blue elephants kept on walking, wondering where all the orange penguins had gone.
