Starlight

On loving in a universe without end

Starlight — a poem by Pemba Umoja

I love people
and I love, love.

My heart doesn’t fill up like a bowl.
It expands like a universe without end.

Filled with stars
brightening the night sky.

Maybe what we see
is what we are.

Maybe I am a universe.
Maybe you are one too.

Maybe I’m a star in yours.
You are one in mine.

Shining brightly.
Distantly.

Star gazing
Love’s sparkles.

We reach for both.
Our fingertips extend

But never touch.
