Dancing with Angels

A poem about creative inspiration and divine guidance

Dancing with Angels — a poem by Pemba Umoja

Sometimes

they lend me

their wings

I didn't think

they were detachable

Maybe they just

keep theirs too

I'm not really sure

I can't see them

with my eyes

But I can hear them

with my heart

and see them

with my soul

Sometimes

I worry

that they'll abandon me

that I'm no longer

good enough

that the cars

the horns

the ruckus of life

will deafen me

So I need to find

quiet places

for my mind to nap

That's when

they whisper

That's when

I write

No

that's when

they write

using their hands

to guide mine

Why did they pick me

Why

This is when

they go silent…

Maybe because

my greatest peace

is listening to them

sharing their words

glimpsing

into eternity
