Beyond the Sea

A note to eternity

“Beyond the sea, there are foreign
lands and wonders.
One day, I wish to see them,”
whispered the boy
as he threw the cork bottle into the sea,
watching his note to eternity slip away
into the tide.
Years later, a wrinkled old man
with a knobby cane
hobbled out to the sea and smiled.
He had kept his promise.
